I set up this website as I was recently diagnosed as Lactose Intolerant after months of not feeling well. This was a shock as I previously had no Intolerances and I knew nothing other than I had to stay off Dairy Products. There is not a lot of information available either about being lactose Intolerant. Eating out became a nightmare as most Irish Restaurants have an obsession with dairy based producs such as cream and butter. Would you believe a lot of restaurants/cafes don't even have soya milk! So I have done a bit of research and hopefully this will be a "one stop shop for eating out" for all us lactose Intolerant sufferers.
I have tried these places myself in Dublin,Wicklow and Kerry and most importantly is based on local knowledge. I have included locations, phone numbers and opening hours where possible. On "Eating out Lactose Free" these are cafes/restaurants in Dublin City and the greater Dublin area. All these Restaurants/Cafes would have Soya Milk and cater for Dietary needs. On Eating out/Health Shops I have included some places in Wicklow and Kerry. I also added some Health Food Shops I have visited too where you can get lactose free products in Wicklow,Kerry and Dublin.
I have noticed recently Supermarkets have brought out ranges for lactose Intolerant sufferers. SuperValu now have there own range of Dairy Free Biscuits. They have half coated chocolate and ginger, ginger and lemon zest. They are really nice. Tescos now have a full range of dairy free products biscuits, breakfast bars, soya milk and they also stock lemon sorbert (Handy instead of Ice Cream). Dunnes Stores have a good range of products biscuits, desserts. Holland and Barrett now have Dairy Free Fudge in Grafton St!
I was recently in Munchies on South William Street and they are really accomodating for dietary requirements.
Another great discovery is Insomnia cafes. They have soya milk and lovely gluten free soups and tasty sweet treats. Website address is http://www.insomnia.ie. My particular favourite is the one in Wexford Street near where I work.
There is a fantastic blog called www.fusspots.net. Amongst the many great items are the most amazing recipes Dairy Free Brownies!!! and Wheat and Dairy Free Pizza!! Yum! Can't wait to give them a go!
